Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Smithfield, VA, affectionately known for “Ham, History, and Hospitality.”
Why did you choose a career in medicine?
Practicing medicine is a beautiful combination of my love for science and people.
What is your favorite part about being a physician assistant and why?
Learning from members of my team and educating patients make this career life-giving for me. I appreciate that every member of my team has a different experience to learn from in caring for the patient. Educating patients empowers them to participate in the care of their own body, rather than participate as a consumer. It is highly rewarding to me to see patients feel confident in the assessment and plan.
Is there a specific event or learning experience that you had that served as an “a-ha” moment or growth opportunity?
Becoming a PA Educator has been a humbling experience. It is a fun challenge to engage with medicine in a way that makes it easier to understand for others.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?
Never stand at the foot of the bed of a patient during a trach change.
What advice would you give to new MSV members?
Participate in Lobby Day, at least once!
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Jesus, He did some amazing things.
What are some of your hobbies and/or passions?
Running, reading, learning, spending time with friends and family
Complete this statement, ”I am happiest when…”
I am happiest when I am laughing at something silly my husband, 4-year-old daughter, or 2-year-old son just said or did! They are so fun and time with them is my favorite time spent.
