Where did you grow up?
I am from Lancaster Pennsylvania but spent most of my childhood in Chesterfield Virginia.
Why did you choose a career in medicine?
I was inspired by my time working as a scribe in the Emergency Room. I wanted to help create a medical home for patients to focus on preventative care.
What is your favorite part about being a physician and why?
My favorite part of being a physician is the small wins, the person who achieves diabetic control, the patient who feels like they were heard, someone who gets the recommended screening which led to an earlier diagnosis.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?
“If you do not make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness”
What advice would you give to new MSV members?
Start by showing up, there is someone who will share your interests, if you are not sure what your interests are – just listen!
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I would interview Dr. Ian McWhinney, often called the “Father of Family Medicine”. His work shaped how family medicine thinks about continuity, whole-person care and the doctor-patient relationship. I would love his advice on how we can continue to evolve family medicine in the new era of provider shortages and changing healthcare constructs.
You are happiest when?
At the beach, with a book and my family.
